First Grade had so much fun exploring living and nonliving things last week!
Our students became little scientists as they observed real worms and gummy worms and discussed their similarities and differences.
To make our learning even more fun, students got to enjoy a dirt and worms cup with "nonliving" gummy worms as a special treat to go along with our investigation! 🍫🪱
Hands-on learning like this helps bring our science concepts to life, and our first graders loved every minute of it! 🔍💡

Just a little addition to our Garden Club thanks to our awesome Dyslexia Teacher and Garden Club member, Mrs. Della Richhart, and our amazing PTO for funding!! This is an Eastern Bluebird nest box!
This exciting addition gives students the opportunity to learn about bird habitats, life cycles, and ecosystems right in our own garden. If WiFi cooperates, teachers will be able to tune in from time to time so students can observe the entire process; from nest site selection and construction to incubation, hatching, feeding, and fledging.
This nest box brings STEM to life as students explore science through real-life life cycles, use technology to observe the nesting process, and learn how engineering design helps create a safe habitat for wildlife. We are super excited!!

🏃♀️💖 Girls on the Run Is Off and Running! 💖🏃♀️
Girls on the Run kicked off last week at Hines, and we are so excited to have 3 teams participating in this empowering program! Over the next 10 weeks, students will build endurance and confidence while learning important life skills like goal setting, teamwork, perseverance, and positive self-talk.
Each season wraps up with a celebratory 5K in Houston, where our girls will put their hard work into action and cheer each other on every step of the way. We are so proud of our runners and can’t wait to watch them grow—inside and out! 💪✨

🎉 Destination Imagination Proud! 🎉
We are so proud of our students who represented Hines Elementary at this year’s Destination Imagination Tournament! With 4 teams competing, our Huskies showed incredible creativity, teamwork, and perseverance. Their hard work and dedication truly shined, and they represented our school so well.
A huge thank you to our amazing team managers who volunteered their time after school to guide, support, and mentor these students along the way. This experience would not have been possible without your commitment and encouragement.
Way to go, Hines Huskies—we are so proud of you! 💙🐾

🍦🔬 Hines Elementary Science Festival Fun! 🔬🍦
Our Huskies had a blast at the annual Sci-Tech Festival, exploring how matter changes by heating and cooling—using coffee creamer to make ice cream! Students from all grade levels rolled up their sleeves to investigate states of matter and then shared the experience with friends and families from across the district. Learning was hands-on, delicious, and full of curiosity—what a sweet way to celebrate science together!

🌱🌼 Our Garden Club is officially blooming for the spring!
At our first spring meeting, our Kindergarten and 1st grade gardeners got their hands dirty prepping garden beds and learning how weather can impact plants. They explored how gardeners observe, adapt, and plan ahead to help their plants grow and thrive.
A huge shout-out to our amazing 4th grade leadership team for stepping into their roles by supporting, guiding, and mentoring our youngest gardeners. We are so proud of the teamwork, curiosity, and excitement already growing in our garden! 🌻💚
